What after market mods are best for Maverick 88 Shotgun?

Just bought a Maverick 88 Field version with the 28in barrel but looking to convert to home defense. I heard mixed reviews about the ATI stuff and found some cheaper stuff from a place on ebay called Ultimate Arms Gear and the Knoxx stocks as well. So many choices…. What should I stay away from or what should I look for? Thanks for your help.
AKLuis, I plan to use the gun for Skeet, Hunting and home defense with the switch of a barrel. And in my part of town(Rockwall Tx) the Mossberg 500 series are always more than the Maverick. I only paid $160 bucks for my Maverick 28in at my local Walmart. So that being said, I have my 18in barrel on order and my dilema is a good stock that I would be able to use for all of my uses…

For home defense, aside from the short 18″ barrel, I highly recommend a light of some kind. Assuming you are on a budget, this doesn’t have to be an expensive one built into the pump fore end, but can be a cheaper one that you just clamp on to the barrel. Just make sure it has good batteries or you maintain them. But definitely get a light. Don’t be swayed by what LOOKS tactical, but what WORKS for your situation. You have no need of shell carriers, slings, or even extended magazines in a home defense shotgun.

Keep it short, lightweight, and practical. Get a light and maybe upgrade the sights to fiber optic and/or a ghost ring.

Actually, lasers are even a viable option, and ugly ones can be cheap, too. You not only have good aiming without having to shoulder the weapon, but a laser really adds to the option of possibly not having to fire a shot.

Do NOT get rid of the buttstock. A shotgun that cannot be shouldered is almost nothing more than a dangerous toy.

Whether you choose to keep a round in the chamber or not is up to you and will depend on the circumstances in your home. I actually favor NOT having a round in the chamber, even though I have no kids in the house. Not only will you get a satisfyingly intimidating (and loud when in the middle of the night) click-clack when you rack the round in, but it also forces you yourself to be more completely awake before being lethal.
