The Fantastic History Of The Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta is a good performing car from a sales perspective with many people choosing to buy it every year. Here are just a few facts and figures about the car itself and why people still think the car is one of the best ones out there.

The Concept Stage

The 70s was a big time for hippies, free love and yes, smaller cars, the demand for these small cars was high around this time. The Ford’s smallest model at the time, the Escort was still not small enough for the consumer, something of course had to be done as competitors were making a lot of money from the cars. The 1972 energy crisis also put a lot of people into a panic and wanted smaller cars to save money on energy as the costs were very quickly on the rise! Ford really did need to do something as the Mini had been out since 59 and the Hillman Imp in 63, it was time for Ford to jump on this.

The codename for the car was Bobcat and the plans were signed off by Henry Ford in 1972. $100 less than the Escort was the cost it was going to be to make which in the 70s was a fair amount of money. At the time Ford estimated that 500,000 of these cars would be made every year and would be based mainly for women, a new factory was built in Spain to help this demand.

The car name had some history before Fiesta with names such as Tempo and Chico going through initially.

The sixth generation of the car has been introduced to the fray and is still doing well over 30 years later, it is truly astonishing.

It doesn’t matter if you want the Seat Leon or even something alone the lines of BMW 1 series, there is no doubt about it, the Fiesta is a great car!
