How well do carbon fiber rings hold up?

I have begun looking for a men’s wedding wedding band and I really like the look of silver colored metal (titanium, tungsten, etc.) with a carbon fiber inlay. My only concern is, what happens several years down the road when my ring is scratched? Can carbon fiber be polished? As a side question, can rings with carbon fiber inlays be resized?

Carbon fiber “objects” actually have two components, the carbon fibers themselves and then a resin to hold the fibers together. Carbon fiber has strong tensile strength but that does not mean it is “hard”. The resin itself will get scratched.

That is the reason people use diamonds in high abuse applications. You also have to be careful with chemicals as carbon fiber can be attacked by corrosive chemicals.

Since the carbon fiber is basically hard encased in resin, it is impossible to re-size it.
