Colt Bushmaster
Why is Bushmaster calling it a M4?
So for years I’ve been telling people it’s an AR-15. Not a M-16, not a M-4, not an Uzi(as one dumba$$ referred to it). But I open up my Cabelas mailer and I see a Bushmaster M4 for sale. And a Colt M4 Ops in .22.
I know it’s just wording, but a number of us here take shooting seriously. Have the major manufacturers just given up?
M4 is the military designation. I don’t see gun stores selling Berettas as M9s or the Remington 700 as a M40
It’s a marketing gimmick.
Bushmaster is known for their marketing strategies when it comes to the AR15. They started with introducing the terms A1 and A2 to the civilian market. These terms was first used by the military referring the the sights on the M16/M4. In fact, the terms A3 and A4 was actually created and used by the civilian market before being adopted by the military. This boosted sales like crazy. Then the civilian market came up with the idea of using the term M4 for their civilian AR15 which seems to have boosted popularity of the rifle again.
