Dual Action

Dual Action
How did the dual-action auger style agitators become so popular for top load clothes washers?

I never saw anything wrong with the standard post agitators as long as I didn’t overload the tub, and they didn’t take up as much space in the tub because they didn’t have auger fins.

The new agitators were intended to move the clothes through the water more aggressively for better cleaning. I would also bet they are cheaper to manufacture than the previous ones.

Note that this has nothing to do with the front load “energy saving” washers which don’t need much effort to get the clothes moving through the water because they use gravity for that action. They are an overpriced scam caused by congress not thinking through the consequences of legislation intended to save energy.
