If I was building my own internet company, do I literally need a fiber optic line connected to my data center?
Let’s say i wanted to start my own internet company. I set up my data center, but how do I actually get the bandwidth for my customers? And how do I distribute it to them?
My bigger question is would I need a fiber optic line directly connected to my data center?
Yes!
You would need fiber optics to tie your data center into the internet backbone.
The main internet transport is fiber optics. The rates of transfer is many times that which your customers would need.
If you were to spend the money on a site with power conditioning, servers, etc without fiber you would never see a return on investment. Your customers would expect a level of service that you would not be able to deliver.
