What is the correct .38 to use in my Ruger police Service six revolver?

I bought a box of 38 S&W 145 gr (X38SWP) and they will not fit in my Ruger 357 revolver. The ammo will only go half way into the chamber.
I am confused. Help!!

wvhunter is correct, you purchased the wrong ammo. You need .38SPECIAL not .38 S&W
when in doubt, it is stamped right on the barrel of the firearm.
And no insult intended, but you need some training with firearms. If you don’t even know what the proper ammo is for your firearm, you are a danger to yourself and others. Don’t feel bad or get mad, we all had to learn at one time, and I have trained a LOT of people with firearms. I encourage you to seek some firearms training as soon as possible.
