Anything I can do to make my flat top stove boil water quicker?

My flat top stove pulses heat which makes water take forever to boil. Anything I can do to improve my results?

My smooth top range has one burner that heats a little faster than the other 8 inch burners. See if your smooth top range has one like that. Your manual should tell you. Another thing you can try is using a different pot to boil the water in. One of my non-stick pots seems to take forever to heat up so the contents can start getting hot.

Also, I always turn up the burner to its highest setting to get it to heat more quickly, but if you have potatoes in the pot you have to watch it more closely to avoid a mess from the boil over. When the water begins a hard boil, I turn the setting back to #2 and that seems to be enough to keep the contents simmering. My range is a Whirlpool and is about 8 years old.
