Gas Block

Gas Block
Does using a non-gas company credit card to pay for gas block out your available credit?

Since I know that when you use a gas company issued credit card to pay for gas the pump, the available credit is often black-out for a few days, until the gas purchase transaction is completed in about 1 to 3 days. Yet I was wondering if this also happens if you use a regular credit card (i.e. Visa or MasterCard) to make a gas purchase? I have heard that if I go inside the store and tell the cashier I only want a certain dollar amount of gas, that they will only charge the card (both non-gas company or gas company credit card) for that amount, thus a block of the available credit will not be put on either type card.

Yet I just wanted to try to find out an answer first, before doing this vs. later finding out (after the purchase) that my available credit on my non-gas company has been put on hold.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Okay My Take on It, thank you . I appreciate your help and in knowing better how this process works.

If you pay at the pump, whether it is with the card issued by the gas station, a credit card, or even a debit card, there usually is a hold placed on your account (typically $25 to $50) This amount drops off in a day or so when the gas station runs the actual amount you purchased. If you go into the station and tell them a set amount that you want to buy, they will NOT put this hold on your account(s).

I always go inside, as I don’t want them holding my money for a day or two.
