What’s the difference between gold plated and regular gold?

I was looking at belly button rings and one category was 24k gold plated but only like $12 but the regular 14k gold was like $80. Besides price what’s the difference like what is gold plated?

gold plated is like just the outside is gold.. so it wont turn you green and stuff:) the insides are not gold. now regular gold is basically all gold.. but some stuff is added.
