I found an antique teapot at my grandfathers and I can’t figure out the maker?
I’m cleaning put my grandfather house. He recently passed away. I found a very small teapot, about 5 in tall and maybe 6 or so in diameter. It makes one small glass of tea. It’s made of silver and it has a black plastic handle. The handle on the lid is red plastic and so is the grip on the filter part. There is a little seal on the lid that says “yamada” and it looks to be handcrafted. The word yamada is in a triangle and on top of the word but still in the triangle are 3 smaller triangles. I’m pretty sure the teapot itself is handcrafted. I’m wondering if this is the valuable yamada teapots that are on the internet? Anyone know how much it may be worth?
To find out whether the pot is antique, check the materials it is made of. The silver could either be made of sheet, moulded or raised. If you see little hammer-marks in the silver, it is most likely raised and hence hand-crafted. If the silver has little bubble marks, tiny holes, it might be made in a mould. Otherwise, it might be sheet-silver.
If the handle is original and it is plastic, this points towards it not being truly antique – maybe it is vintage from the 20th century.
