Gun Locks

Do I have to have a safe for my handgun in California? Is a gun lock sufficient?
Just purchased a Glock 30. I plan to store it into a safe that is not intended for firearms. Just wondering if I need to buy another safe.
You need to secure your handgun in a California approved safe or security cabinet. If you do not have one then it needs to be secured with a California approved gun lock. If your safe is not included on the approved list (I’ll include a link) then it must conform to certain standards. Some, but not all police departments, provide free approved locks; so you may need to buy one. Probably the cheapest place to buy an approved lock is a big box retailer–just make sure it says “California Approved” on the packaging.
