Can you pull the trigger on a gun when the safety is on?

On a gun with the safety on, can the trigger still be pulled and nothing happens, or does the safety actually lock the trigger itself so it can’t be pulled?

Nothing will happen. It still is not a good idea to rely soley on the saftey. Proper handling still is key.
