spray latex paint on steel with cheap husky gravity feed gun?

i recently started working for a company that manufactures machines and they have been rolling latex paint on steel i tried using it in the spray gun today but it did not work good at all. the boss man told me not to cut it so i did not. it is just me and the boss now so any help would be great… thank you. i am a painter for 30 years and do not use gravity gun or a hopper. you can buy a airless paint sprayer cheap one for 200 and a good one for 500.i recommend a good one try a wagner with a hopper on it. easier to clean. even spray coverage and low maintance.. you can even buy a power roller attachment for it for 200 more. much faster. goodluck
