How should I discipline my dog.?
Yesterday I tried to put some ear drops into my dogs ears. She is a 13lbs Havanesse. She hates them, so much so that when she smells the ointment she runs away and its impossible to get her.
Well I came in late and we decided to put it on her, she has some yeast infection on her ear. I tried to hold her down while my wife put it on.
the dog freaked out, she nipped me and my wife and ran away. I locked her in the closet for 30 mins and she cowered out after that.
i dont know what to do, I love the dog but she cant be acting like that.
I am going to reaffirm all the Alpha dog stuff by making her eat last, no scraps, tight lead when walking etc.
is there anything else, she is 18 months. Serious answers only
I don’t see this as a “discipline” issue. Rather, you should make this experience as uneventful as possible for your dog.
I had a dog that needed eye treatments three times a day. In the beginning she was very unhappy and resisted. I used small treats to reward her and make positive association with the treatment. At first, I gave the treats after each step (cleaning, eye drops to stimulate tear production and then a lubricant) of the treatment, but gradually reduced it to just a treat at the end of each treatment. It didn’t take long before she was eagerly awaiting her treat and very tolerant of being handled.
