Pachmayr Grips

Pachmayr Grips
Which company makes better grips for a revolver, Hogue or Pachmayr?

I have a Smith & Wesson 38 “J” frame revolver that KILLS my hand ! I want to try different grips to see if that helps. Has anyone tried either or both of these brands (or any others) and have any advice?

I believe in Houge grips for two reasons.
A) They are constructed using a slightly softer and slightly tackier rubber than Pachmayr. Pachmayr grips tend to be a little on the hard and glossy side. This makes your grip on the gun not as smooth and tends to slip slightly during recoil. The sharp molded checkering on Pachmayr grips also tends to rub your palm uncomfortably during an extended shooting session. Hogue grips tend to compress slightly more than Pachmayr’s and the combination of this, the slight tackiness, and Hogue’s stippled ratheer than checkered surface makes for a surer and more comftrable hold on the gun.
B)Pachmayr grips are in my opinion poorly shaped as far as ergonomics are concerned, in both the “Presentation” as well as the”Gripper” styles. They tend to be quite wide from front to back. I prefer to be able to feel like my hand is wrapped securely around the grip. Hogue grips feel much more natural in my hand. and this makes for a more repeatable hold on the gun which increases consistancy shot-to-shot.
