Peltor Tactical
How is the Peltor headphones’ sound quality if I want to listen CDs with them?
Hi I love the look of some of the tactical ear protection(ok I admit its because Ghost – the guy from modern warfare 2) and I was wondering can I use them as normal audio headsets.
I did some research and found some of the products from Peltor look rather nice, and some models offer audio input jacks, so the only thing left me worrying is the audio quality — they’re obviously made for sound-hazardous environment only, but if they’re anywhere near as good as some of the entry level headphones made by Sennheiser then its a done deal for me Lol
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I doubt you’d be very happy using Peltor headphones for music listening; Quite simply, it’s not what they’re designed to do.
As you know, they’re intended to provide hearing protection while still allowing you to hear what’s going on around you. The way they do that is by muffling as much sound as possible and then using microphones to pass a controlled amount of sound to your ears. To be good at that, they have to make some compromises.
First, since they are designed to be hearing protection they are going to be very “dead” sounding. The cups are lined with dense foam so they will absorb sound of different frequencies in ways that a standard pair of headphones wouldn’t.
Second, the microphones, drivers, and amplifiers are all tailored to reproducing “important” sounds primarily in the center of the audio spectrum, where most human voices fall. However, they don’t produce much in the way of low bass or high treble sounds that are important for music.
Unless you need them for hearing protection, I’d get something else. They look cool.but for the cost of the Peltor headsets you can get some amazing cans from Sennheiser or even AKG.
