Pin Spring

How do you compress the spring on the firing pin assembly on a shotgun long enough to get it together?

This is NOT a hammerless shotgun.

Which brand/type of gun are you working on, JJ? I’m going to assume it’s a single shot hammer-type so if this sounds stupid, let me know.

Usually, on single shots of that type, the spring also has a guide rod on one end and a cap on the other. The guide rod usually has a tiny hole through it that matches one on the cap. On that type, pre-compress the spring onto the guide rod with some channel lock pliers (might take an extra hand if you have one handy) and stick a safety pin through the hole in the rod and matching hole in the cap. You then stick the spring into place….and *CAREFULLY* work the safety pin out. The spring will spring into place, so to speak.

Gotta add a warning about springs while we’re here. Whenever you’re working with springs, WEAR GOGGLES! It only takes once!
