What is the best way to store a pistol if I don’t have a gun safe?

I heard that keeping firearms in their carry cases draws moisture and is bad for the gun. What is a great way to store my pistol to keep it from rusting? Also is it ok to keep a gun in a wooden glass front display case? I figured the wood helps soak the moisture and it keeps the dust and whatnot off the gun. Plus I can show it off.

Even in a gunsafe, moisture can get in. My solution is to add dessicant packets to the inside of the safe, which I change out periodically. You can probably get those at any hardware store, but if you can’t, another solution is to make your own dessicant packets out of kitty litter. You don’t actually have to sew up the kitty litter in little packets, I usually just put it in a few small containers in the safe, and periodically change out the litter.

As far as keeping your pistol from rusting, just make sure to clean and oil it at least once a month, regardless of whether you shoot it in that time or not. If you live in a humid climate, you may want to clean it more frequently, if you live in a dry climate, you can get away with less maintenance.

As far as SAFELY storing the pistol without a safe, make sure you have it locked with a cable lock to where it cannot be operated while the lock is in.
