What causes hiccups? what is the best way to get rid of them? please read the details section?

Every time I ask a question on here many people just answer quickly and with stupid replies like “why don’t you read a book and find out” or “have you ever heard of Google” Please I am looking for serious answers not foolishness or urban myths like “hold your breath” or “have someone scare you”. I also want to thank in advance all the people who answer questions to the best of their abilty and are serious about trying to help people

Getting scared actually does work i have tried many ways of scaring people with hiccups most effective were jumping out of somewhere also my friend had the hiccups and i said to her “oh my God i forgot to tell you daniel was in a car crash” she went quiet and i said your hiccups gone? and they were gone…try it!
