What is the best 12 gauge pump shotgun for under 300 bucks?

I would like something for hunting and home defense and I have a budget of 300 bucks

Without a doubt Remington 870 express is the best gun for your money. Most sporting goods stores will retail the gun for 250 to 280 w/ the vent rib barrel. It should have a rim choke to allow you different hunting options deer, bird, turkey, etc. (stick w/ the wood stock. you can pass this gun on to your grand kids)

The mossberg 500 is a decent gun and a bit cheaper but the safety located on the top of the magazine is hard to move when the gun is used in colder weather and their pump rail is loose/noisy.

Either way, you could burry both of these guns in the mud dig them up a week later and they will shoot.
