Rail Panel

Rail Panel
what color to paint my kitchen walls to brighten it up?

the cabinets are a medium oak built in the 80s,floor is a dark not ebony wood. The cabinets have a soffit that makes the cabinets look heavy.Counter tops would be a neutral.2 wooden doors in kitchen to deck and to carport.don’t want to paint the cabinets. No yellows please. What would you suggest the room has a chair rail with dark paneling below and drywall above.would like a two tone.

I would paint the paneling…unless you like it, of course…, but painting the dark paneling a light color would brighten up the room. You could also add wanes coating underneath the chair rail as well in white or a light color.
If you are looking for a brightening up look, then you probably want to stick with a light color.
I would think of a theme that you want to do the kitchen in such as country, vineyard, chili peppers, sunflowers, etc….; whatever your personal preference is. I like the vineyard theme and so I painted the kitchen in my last house a pretty red color that had a tad bit of brown in it (like a berry red color that’s really popular right now).
For another example if you were going to do your kitchen in a vineyard theme, you could buy a decorative piece, such as a theme based cookie jar and you could use the colors or one of the colors in the jar to pick which color to paint your kitchen.
You can also Google kitchen or kitchen decor to get ideas or copy what they have done, as well.
I wouldn’t paint the kitchen blue unless you really like it because blue is a color that makes you sleepy. You want to be wide awake in your kitchen. So I would go with a bright color or a light color.
A light color will make your kitchen appear larger.
Some popular colors right now are that berry red or brick red color, sage green or olive green, a sort of milky way color (like a light tannish cream ), Tuscan colors (you can look these up in Google so you can see the color yourself)…I personally love Tuscan colors which would go with a vineyard theme….
I hope this helps…
:O)
