Receiver Sights

how do i change the receiver to a flat top on my AR-15?
its an olympic and has the A-1 sights on it right now
and i mean adding it on to the rifle assembly, disassembly, and things like that the procedure
and i am not into buying a new upper when i can just replace the receiver
You will first need to buy a new upper receiver, which will be around $100-150 depending on what you find. You will also need a vise, action block, barrel wrench, torque wrench, roll pin punch set and moly grease. (Instructions for the following are available, including illustrations, from www.ar15.com).
Push the two pins that connect the upper and lower receivers. Remove the upper receiver. Remove the bolt carrier group and charging handle from the upper receiver. Remove the handguards. You should now be able to see the barrel nut under the delta ring (which holds the handguards tight at the rear of the barrel). In order to remove the barrel nut, and thus remove the barrel from the upper receiver, you will need to remove the gas tube, which passes through one of the notches in the barrel nut. Drive the gas tube roll pin out of the front sight base. Remove the gas tube from the front sight base, then slide out of the upper receiver.
Place the upper receiver in the action block, and place the action block in the vise. Using your barrel wrench, remove the barrel nut. The barrel should now slide out of the upper receiver. Take the old upper receiver out of the action block and place the new upper in. Reinstall the delta ring and associated hardware the same way it came off. Put the barrel into the new upper. Apply a light coating of Moly grease to the inside threads of the barrel nut (to prevent binding). Screw the barrel nut on by hand. Using the torque wrench and barrel wrench, tighten to between 35-80 lbs – do not overtighten (could crack the upper receiver). Thread the gas tube through the notch that lines up with the hole in the upper receiver (make sure it lines up perfectly – if not, adjust the barrel nut). Return the gas tube to the front sight base. Drive the gas tube roll pin back in. Replace the handguards. Remove the upper receiver from the action block. Reinstall the charging handle and carrier group. Re-attach to the lower receiver via the two pins.
Enjoy your new flat-top rifle!
