The MOE Magpul Carbine Stock

Magpul are renowned for their affordable but well designed and immensely strong AR accessories. Many of these accessories make use of strong, impact and corrosion resistant fiber-reinforced polymer technology, but aluminium and steel are used where their properties are required. One of their best-sellers is the MOE collapsible carbine stock which has won a great following in military, security and sports shooting circles.

The Magpul MOE stock is their baseline M-4 carbine stock and is designed to present a quality replacement for the original USGI unit. The MOE is supplied in mil-spec and commercial models to suit the different buffer tubes fitted on military and commercial ARs. The stock’s A-frame protects the release catch from accidental actuation. An extra-power lock is used to prevent auto-collapse, utilizing a premium chrome-steel spring which resists relaxation even if left compressed for long periods. Fitted as standard with a 0.30″ rubber butt pad, the mil-spec model can be fitted with 0.55″ and 0.70″ pads as an option. The commercial model is supplied with the 0.55″ to take the larger commercial buffer and can take and optional 0.70″ pad. Though they are rare, there are some military buffers out there with an extended slant back that requires the mil-spec stock to be used with the 0.55″ butt pad. The comb is kept narrow, yet is bevelled for comfort. For use with weapons other than ARs, or when the stock is to be used permanently extended, optional MOE cheek risers are available to raise the comb by 0.25″, 0.50″ or 0.75″. These are often used on bolt action rifles and shotguns and work with the Troy M14 stock.

The MOE stock offers several options for fitting a sling including two horizontal slots, one slot in the lower arm of the stock and a vertical one in the buttplate. Paracord slings are catered for with a loop in the toe of the butt. Another option is to use a single point or Magpul MS2 single or two piece sling and replace the end plate of the AR-15′s action with a Magpul ASAP Ambidextrous Sling Attachment Point. This is a rugged cast steel unit with a 1/8″ thick steel sling loop which provides the sling with 180 degrees of uninterrupted movement. This enables fully ambidextrous operation with rapid switching to cater for the rapidly evolving tactical situations or operator injury. This is very useful when shooting around or over cover. The use of polymer molding means alternative colorations are easy to implement – Black, Dark Earth, OD Green and Foliage Green versions are available.
