How do you clean the detachable magazine of a semiautomatic rifle ?

The magazines (also known as clips) of my rifle get very dirty in use. Eventually the build-up of spent nitro will cause the magazine to jam and the result is a misfeed. But I can’t see a good way to clean the magazine. My rifle is a 22LR Remington 597 semi-automatic with 10 cartridge clips and a stainless barrel.

First of all, clips are NOT the same thing as magazines. Your gun has a magazine.

I’m not familiar with the Rem 597, and I don’t know if the magazines are serviceable (able to be taken apart or not). Most cleaning kits come with a brush that looks a lot like a tooth brush, that you can use to clean off the lips of the magazine with.
