Rifle Shotgun

In Oregon, What are the laws for vehicle transport of a rifle or shotgun?

I live in Oregon (Washington County), and bought my first firearm, a Weatherby MarkXXII rifle yesterday from a friend (with receipt). I would like to know if it is legal to have in my trunk. The CHL laws are clear about carrying a handgun in your vehicle, but I can’t find as much info about carrying shotguns or rifles.
Do I need to register my rifle?
Do I need a permit?
