Rifle Stock

Rifle Stock
what’s the rise on the side of a kentucky rifle stock for?

on many kentucky rifles (especially the more expensive ones and older ones) I see a rise on the left side of the butt of the stock. What’s the purpose of this rise?

That’s the cheek weld, where you rest your cheek while sighting and firing the rifle. It helps to keep the head of the shooter in a more natural position while firing, plus it aids in keeping a proper sight picture, especially with Creedmore sights on black powder rifles.
