What caliber rifle can ?
I need a rifle capable of shooting 300-400 yards without dropping much. I need the rounds to be cheap as well. This gun will be used for target practice and maybe a little varmint hunting.I hear the new .204 caliber is really flat shooting. I need one that has good velocity speed. I prefer Bolt action. Also I like remington,browning, and ruger guns the best. Maybe a .243?
G’day mate,I use a model 700 .223 Remington sps varmint rifle.I shoot up to 500 meters that’s 546 yards,and i have no problem with it but i don’t shoot that distance all the time,mainly around 300 meter mark it does me really well no problem at all.I would go for the .223 wssm but only if im hunting with it,it’s not a gun for bench shooters.Bench shooters will burn out that barrel in a week of using it.The .223 wssm will only last a bench shooter 2600 rounds till he starts to see the accuracy change.To a hunter it will last 3000 to 4000 rounds because it will still hit vital ares
of an animal..223/.223 wssm are flat shooting guns but they don’t like wind and grass blades.The wind can blow them off course a bit not much.Grass blades if the bullet hit’s it can break up the bullet because it is going so fast.I wouldn’t go for a 243 unless you are always shooting over 400 meters on small game,the 243 on small game at 100 to 300 meters will still blow it to bits even if it is a head shot.I shot my friends 243 on a rabbit at 346 meters head shot but when i got to it there was only half a rabbit,if you want the meat i would not go for the 243 on small game.204 i have heard it a good gun but i haven’t heard enough about them let alone shot one.cheers mate
