Short Muzzle

Is my Ram Rod too short?

Im sure this wasnt the best way to word my question but, I just bought my first muzzle loader, CVA Optima, and the ram rod on the gun is shorter than the barrel by a 2-3 in. and wont reach the breach plug. Im new to black powder and im curious if this is how its supposed to be. Also the ramrod has a top that screws off lengthing it by a couple inches but just slides freely. I just expected the ramrod to reach the breach plug with room to spare.

Its suppose to be that way for safety. With proper load and ball loaded it will stick out slightly are a little more with a sabot.

Its better than looking down the barrel to see if its loaded LOL

So if your ram rod goes in and disappears…by a few inches you know its empty. Safely.
