Tactical Lights – More Than Merely A Light
A tactical flashlight or tactical light is a flashlight that is used along with a gun to find a target. The light can also be used to blind or disorient a target as well. Training programs to train police officers on the use of these lights has been present since the 1930s.
When using a a tactical light, you will hold the light in one hand and the gun in the other. A couple of different positions are possible when using them. It can be held parallel with your weapon or it can be held off to the side of your body to trick the assailant.
During manufacturing, there are a couple of different ways these lights are put together to perform in different ways. One model is made with a skinny body and a ring type device for powering the light on and off. The ring-shaped device is designed to put the fingers through so that when ready to turn the light on, all you need to do is pull back on the ring. There is a model that has a button that allows you to just release pressure from the button to power it on. This makes quick flashing a breeze.
Quite a few officers like to use a baton style light called a Maglite. In order to be used as a weapon, when carried the back of the Maglite is carried so that the back of the light remains behind the thumb of the person carrying it.
There are lights that were made to fit on a weapon known as weapon mounted lights. These kinds of lights used to be only used on certain large weapons. This is still true today. The Picatinny rail system allows for any correctly sized attachment to be fitted to the any weapon with the rail system attached.
There is also a clamp attachment that allows you to attach a light to almost any weapon. The problem with this is that you can only have the light parallel to the barrel of your weapon. This could result in being spotted by a target while your gun is drawn during firing.
Some of the lights on guns have been changed to make the field of vision a bit bigger. Instead of being limited to 300 meters, you will be able to see up to 325 or more meters.
There are lenses made to fit these attachments. They allow you to see in different colors. The red lens allows you to save your night-vision. The blue lets you find things such as blood. The infrared lens can omits a beam that can only be seen with night-vision.
There are many shapes and sizes of tactical flashlights. The important thing is that they help those who help us. These kinds of lights have been used to by officers to save the lives of other officers who were closing in an assailant by blinding them from farther away. Without these sorts of advancements in weaponry, we would have more escaped fugitives and more lives lost.
