Braided fishing line // leader question?
Sooo, I’m fishing with the samurai braid – 30LB. It’s a heck of a lot thinner than I am used to. Question being : I’m a surf fisherman – stripers / blues. What kind of leader should I use on this? I’m mainly using 1-3oz plugs, slug-gos etc. Normally I would just tie on a fluorocarbon leader but now that seems heavy on this line.
…but what about fishing Blues? Concerned about them biting thru the 20lb Fluoro
Your 30 pound braid should be your main line and your fluoro/mono line should be your leader. The line strength of your leader should be weaker than you main life. I would suggest using a 17-20 pound leader for this setup.
If you’re worried about the blue’s teeth cutting the line, just use a steel leader when you are targetting them. Here is one that matches the strength of your line.

You can stick this on for striper too, but may not have as much luck as you would with the fluoro…
