Lately, it’s all about the wheels – the all important connection between the car and the tires. A Few Terms To Get You In The Know:
- Spinners can be one piece rims or added onto you current rims and have roller bearings to allow them to move, that gives your wheels an entertaining perception of movement. Since they move independent of the rims spinners spin around even when the wheel is stopped, energized by the law of momentum, sliding along on their bearings with little resistance from the wheel itself.
- The center caps on the rims when you purchase the car are called factory center caps. To make your rims more appealing, you can buy high-style chrome center caps that will set your car apart.
- Center caps can be snapped into place when upgrading your tires with aftermarket rims. The caps cover the center of the rim and can have all manner of patterns – domestic or foreign logos, even a concept design. A tip for acquiring center caps for rims on the cheap is to check local salvage yards. You can always check on the web; you are sure to find a supplier who can help you obtain what you want.
- Rims purchased from a manufacturer other than the car maker are called aftermarket rims and are used to personalize your car. Aftermarket rims come with center caps but you can get a set of unique center caps to really make them stand out.
- A hub cap, on the other hand, is a wheel cover that protects the lug nuts and covers virtually the entire wheel rim.
- Small LEDs can also be added to your rims. The LEDs emit a glowing light and are powered by small long-life batteries.
- With wheel spacers you can add additional width to the wheels, shifting them out closer the fenders. There is an improvement in handling as well as a more agressive look to your machine.
