Eco Friendly Athletic Training

While the eco-friendly movement pushes forward, more and more professionals are looking for ways to improve their green practices. This does not leave out the field of athletic training. How many med kits are filled with disposable products used by athletic trainers? Just ice bags? Perhaps Powerflex and athletic tape? Or are you wondering what all of those aerosol products in your training bag are doing to the Ozone? Here are some ideas to move you along on the environmentally friendly path

1) Plastic bags may be convenient but Hot/Cold therapy wraps and Ice Cold therapy wraps are more durable and provide more coverage. There are several to chose from in many different sizes. For the convenience of one-time-use ice bags try the Protec Recycled Ice Bags.

2) Whether you’re in men’s athletics or women’s athletics ankle injuries happen often. While there are many types of elastic bandages, there are wraps that are specifically made for ankle injuries and are more comparable to traditional taping methods. Try using the Cramer Ank-L-Wrap, a reusable cloth wrap specifically designed for wrapping ankles in place of athletic tape. Instead of using the Ank-L-Wrap you can also try the Protec ankle wrap. Wonder wrap by Mueller is a great solution for wrapping injuries on small areas of the body such as the ankle, wrist, and knees.

3) Try utilizing sized braces for the athletes that have chronic injuries. These might include: Cramer Groin Strain Brace – an adjustable wrap used for groin injuries; Protec Knee braces – Protec has a line of various knee braces ranging from IT bands to hinged knee braces that are good for just about any type of knee injury; Protec Achilles Tendon Support Brace – used for strained achilles.

4) Tired of new athletic shoes causing too many blisters? Most traditional blister dressings are utilized once and discarded. Alternatively to traditional blister dressings are the Engo Team Blister Variety Packs. The blister patches are placed in the area blisters form on and in sports equipment and are used multiple times.

5) Blisters are less likely to form when wrapping injuries if Tuf Skin is used to secure the wrapping material. You can utilize this product with the wraps and braces above. However, it typically comes in an aerosol container. Tuf Skin is also available in a non-aerosol container as an alternative.
