Stripper Clip

Stripper Clip
What are the different firearms that use stripper/charger clips?

The only two firearms that can be reloaded with a stripper/charger clip that I personally know of are the SKS and the SMLE. I’m sure there are plenty of firearms that can do this, I’m just having a hard time finding them online. My father in law said he learned how to do this with a FN FAL back when he was in the reserves back in the day, but I can’t find anything to back this up online. Being up here in Canada, and you can only have a 5 round magazine (legally!), and each magazine being 30-50 bucks, I’d be nice to find a rifle that can use a stripper clip. Any ideas?

You can load the FAL mags with stripper clips (it saves weight over carrying 20 loaded magazines), and DS Arms makes a stripper clip top cover for them (for Kalifornia rules), but I doubt that happened “back in the day.”

The FN49 took stripper clips, though; that may be what he’s talking about.

For your purposes, a K98K Mauser would be near ideal. A good smith can rebarrel it to .308 Winchester if finding 8 x 57 ammo is difficult. Mitchell’s Mauser sells new M60 Mausers in .308, but I’ve never seen one and wouldn’t recommend it until I did. It may be a fine rifle, or it may be a horribly finished piece: I just don’t know.

If (and its a big IF) you can find (or load your own) ammo for it, the K31 would also be a great choice. Technically, its a six-round magazine, but I’m betting it wouldn’t be too difficult to permanently reduce that capacity

Pretty much all military bolt action took them: The K98 Mausers, the Mosin Nagant, the K31 Swiss, 1903 Springfield, M1941 Johnson, M1917, the C96 “Broomhandle,” Carcano, M47 Madsen…

and probably dozens of others I simply can’t think of right now, perhaps the others here will help fill in that list.
