What is meant by the phrase that cells go through the cell cycle? Why is chromosome replication so important to the cell cycle? Be sure to include what would happen if there were no chromosomal replication.
During S-phase of Interphase in the beginning of cell cycle all the chromosomes replicate, so that the number of chromosomes get doubled. This doubled number is later on in the karyokinesis shared equally by the daughter cells and hence chromosome number does not get changed in the daughter cells. 2n cells produce 2n cells.
If the chromosomees do not replicate before actual division, the cells can’t make the chromosome number constant.
